I had an opportunity to participate in Regional Learning Workshop on Early Warning System for National Red Cross Society. The workshop was held in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on 26-30 July 2009. Yes, Bangladesh! One of the most densely populated countries in the world. Bangladesh is also prone to annual monsoon floods and cyclones.
Two years ago when I attended VOSS, I was supposed to be from Bangladesh. When I read e-mail from my supervisor informing the workshop, the word Bangladesh rang the bell. So I told to myself, "Now am I going to go to (supposed-to-be) my home country?".
At first glance, to me, Bangladesh is gloomy. The photos may tell you. It is perhaps because I did not go to any amusing places. I went to Noakhali in the southern part of Bangladesh that is subject to cyclones and Serajganj that is prone to floods. It was a very short visit actually (compared to how many hours we spent for the trip from Dhaka to both places) but really I could not erase the despairing sceneries from my mind.
